United in Recovery is a five-county coalition to end substance use disorder. We work to bring diverse organizations and individuals together to educate, change policies, expand access, and improve treatment for opioid addiction.
Since the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, measures were put in place, there has been a rise in overdoses causing alarm in the recovery community. For those battling substance use disorder, community and support are key for continued success, and the barriers social distancing inadvertently creates, while very much needed, put an already vulnerable population at more risk.
That is why United in Recovery, a program of United Way of Columbia and Montour Counties (cmcuw.org
), has pivoted to virtual events during this time to further connect and support the recovery community. Some of those events have included, Virtual Trivia Tuesdays, a free quiz and trivia night as well as Coffee & Self Care, a weekly Zoom event where attendees could share thoughts, mindfulness techniques, and learn how to cope with the stress of social distancing.
Your donation will go to further our mission and allow for more virtual events as well as stigma training and educational events. To learn more and sign up for these events, follow us on Facebook (@unitedinrecoverycolumbiamontour
